My FIRST-EVER Tribeca Gallery Tour Sat. Nov. 23

I’m exited to announce my FIRST-EVER Tribeca gallery tour, taking place Sat. Nov. 23 at 1:00 PM.  TriBeCa’s name is an acronym of sorts meaning “Triangle Below Canal” St.  This area has had a small number of galleries for years, though not enough to sustain a gallery tour on its own.  That is until recently, with a surprising infusion of several new art spaces in the area, perhaps due to the increasing international renown of that neighborhood’s Tribeca Film Festival.

To tell the truth, I led a tour exactly ONCE before in Tribeca, over 2 years ago, but that was a combo Soho/ Tribeca tour, covering just 3 galleries in Tribeca and 4 in Soho.  My Nov. 23 tour will be my first “pure” Tribeca tour, and I hope the first of many to come.

Canal Street is the northern border for Tribeca, with neighboring Soho to the north of Canal St.  Indeed, galleries less than a block south of Canal St. (Tribeca) and less than a block north of Canal St. (Soho), for all practical purposes comprise the same neighborhood.  Nevertheless, far more galleries have made their home over the years in Soho rather than Tribeca.  However, as Tribeca is less expensive than still-trendy and fashionable Soho, more galleries lately are opening in Tribeca than in Soho.

Highlights of the Nov. 23 Tribeca tour will include a gallery that has transformed itself into a bizarre karaoke bar, including a shower station in which you can sing (optional, of course), and TWO exhibits that were favorably reviewed recently by the New York Times!  These are 3 of 7 shows we’ll see.

After 11 years of leading gallery tours, it’s very rare these days that I offer a “first-ever” neighborhood trip, so be a part of my gallery tours history this Saturday.
