Laser Light Show & More on Nov. 24 Lower East Side Gallery Tour

Until this week I had NEVER seen laser lights as part of a gallery exhibit or museum exhibit – only at concerts and discos – so I’m thrilled to announce that my Sat. Nov. 24 Lower East Side gallery tour will include a gallery laser light show by a 30 year-old British artist!  His is just one of 7 FABULOUS exhibits we’ll visit that day.

The artist doing the laser light show says that these lasers are his way of exploring the body and spirituality in our contemporary experience, promoting an optimistic reimagining of human potential.  His luminous creatures and spectral bodies emerge from a process that is embedded within the technological language of our times.  Besides the laser light show, his exhibit will also include wall pieces of nude figures that have been laser-carved using computer-controlled engraving.

This artist is truly the wave of the future, which is exactly what the Lower East Side galleries are all about.  This neighborhood has grown precipitously from having just 10 galleries 6 years ago, to over 125 galleries at last count.  On average, the L.E.S. hosts the city’s youngest gallery owners, who in turn bring with them fresh, innovative artists.

Other highlights of the Nov. 24 tour will include (1) an African-American’s edgy paintings of Monet’s famous gardens outside of Paris, created during her artist residency there, and (2) a Turkish artist’s breathtaking 7-screen video installation of moving water that he likens to the cleansing and destructive forces of the Arab Spring.

The Lower East Side galleries are open Thanksgiving weekend, so bring along visiting friends and family members to this tour, or come solo.  It’s going to be a festive afternoon!
