Fun and Festive Lower East Side Gallery Tour Sat. Nov. 29 this Holiday Weekend!
If you’re hanging out with friends or family this Thanksgiving weekend, I can’t think of a more entertaining way to share the holiday festivities than my ALL-NEW Lower East Side gallery tour on Sat. Nov. 29. This neighborhood, with over 125 galleries and growing, has become the world’s mecca for fresh, young artists making a splash in the art scene. Not only that, but the gallery owners there are young themselves, including a 29 year-old dealer we met on last month’s L.E.S. tour, having only her second show ever that already managed to make it into my top 7 exhibits!
Highlights of this Saturday’s L.E.S. tour: (1) a female artist’s paintings using airborne drones – instead of dropping bombs, she ordered them to drop paint, (2) digital photos that an artist infected with computer viruses, wreaking havoc to gorgeous, wildly colorful effect, and (3) a young artist’s edgy video piece that a NY Times critic called “captivating” and “heartening.” These are just 3 of 7 fabulous shows.
It so happens that all the exhibits we’ll be visiting this Saturday are suitable for all ages and backgrounds. And yet, there will be a lot of forward thinking on display: the majority of these shows take advantage of the latest technology, some in ways you could never imagine.
We’re lucky that Thanksgiving always falls on a Thursday, because by Saturday the galleries are open for business and eager to have us admire their work. Come be part of the celebration!
